Isra School of Nursing [ISN]

Introduction
Nursing is a very important wing of healthcare delivery system. Nurses contribute as much as, if not more as the doctors, to the healthcare system.

The factual situation is that there is acute shortage of nurses in Pakistan in general and in the province of Sindh in particular.

The nursing profession has become highly specialized in present era and the nurses have to work with the most modern medical technologies to bring relief to the suffering of the human beings.

Keeping above facts under consideration, Faculty of Medicine and Allied Medical Sciences at Isra University, Hyderabad, has started School of Nursing as its constituent nursing training institute. Isra School of Nursing is established by approval of Pakistan Nursing Council vide their letter number F-134- Admin/2002-1484 dated August 27, 2002.

Initially Pupil Midwifery course was started exclusively for girls. Diploma in General Nursing is planned to be launched from year 2003, followed by B.Sc Nursing Degree Program.

Admission and Stipends

The girls having matriculation in science stream with minimum of B-grade are encouraged to take admission. FSc students are preferred. As an incentive they are offered monthly stipend almost equal to that of a qualified midwife. Hostel accommodation is provided to candidates coming from outside Hyderabad.

Training
The students are trained and guided by highly qualified medical and nursing faculty. They are given opportunity to do practical training in wards, operation theatre and labour room and participate in managing emergency cases round the clock. They are also provided opportunity to participate in domiciliary midwifery.

Facility & Faculty

The School of Nursing is located on the second floor of Isra University Welfare Hospital. It consists of office of the principal/ tutors, classrooms, and demonstration room/library. In addition the University labouratories, auditorium, library, and learning resource center are also available to nursing students for their use. Students are trained by highly qualified medical & nursing faculty.

Course & Evaluation

Pupil Midwifery course consists of 12 weeks of pre-training session conducted by our faculty. At the end of 12 weeks, they are examined and successful candidates are inducted in 52 weeks Midwifery Course. Regular attendance in classes and wards (80%) is mandatory to make them eligible for taking Nursing Board Examination.

The students are given continuous assessment tests on monthly basis. They also have to sit in the semester examination at the end of each semester. Finally the students have to qualify annual examination of Sindh Nursing Examination Board to receive the diploma which is recognized and registered by Pakistan Nursing Council.

Job Prospectus

Well groomed and well trained nursing staff will find job placement within the country and abroad. They are given preferred status in employment by Isra University Hospital, Hyderabad.
